Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal wielded the axe to five of his first-team players during face-to-face meetings on Saturday.
Rafael, Marouane Fellaini, Nani, Anderson and Javier Hernandez were all told they have no future at Old Trafford next season.
The quintet have been told to instruct their representatives to find them new clubs before the transfer window closes in three weeks.
However, there is a role for Shinji Kagawa at United next season.
But the talent attacking midfielder will be third choice No. 10 behind Juan Mata and Ander Herrera.
It is understood Van Gaal met individually with players on Saturday to break the news to them. The meetings took place between 2pm-4pm.
