The Idoma People of Nigeria, IPN, has strongly kicked against the removal of Prof. Michael Umale Adikwu as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja. IPN described Adikwu’s removal as illegal and unlawful.
IPN noted that the entire Idoma community was not happy over the development.
It would be recalled that Justice B.A Adejumo, President of the Industrial Court had recently restrained the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Mike Adikwu, from administering the institution.
The Court also restrained the Governing Council of the University from taking any step to implement the report of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board on the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor.
The Judge however, directed that the originating summons be served on the University’s Governing Council, the Vice Chancellor and six other respondents. Adikwu was elected by eight of the 13-member Governing Council of the university. The split within the council led to the suit.
Reacting to the development, IPN coordinator, Josephine Akioyame in a statement stated that the Idoma community was not going to take it lying low the shenanigans that are going on in Abuja with respect to his appointment.
The statement obtained by DailyPost reads, “He (Adikwu) is a man of incredible academic qualifications. He was a Professor at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) prior to his appointment. However, as is usual with Nigeria where a tripod believes they own Nigeria, the appointment is being fought with all the legal strength they could muster.
First, they took the matter to Industrial Court, which in a turns ordered the Governing Council not to appoint any VC even after the fact of appointment. At that point, Prof. Adikwu was already appointed. When they perceived this was not going to work, they have taken it to the National Assembly, in order to use that bully pulpit to demonize one of our own.
They fought assiduously to have one of their own appointed and we outwitted them. They then decided to have him removed by any means possible. They have forgotten quickly how we sacrificed our valuable assets to keep this country one.
How we borne the brunt of Biafra might being on the frontier between Nigeria and Biafra. To them, we are good to die but not much good for anything else.
Therefore, we think it is time to send a message to them. That we the Idoma people are solidly behind the appointment of Prof. Umale Adikwu, and that we are not going to take it lying low the shenanigans that are going on in Abuja with respect to his appointment.”
